It is of no secret that this year was the complete opposite of everything we thought it would be. I remember the end of 2019, people were convinced 2020 would be their best year yet, with new jobs, new businesses, new love. But they always say, if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.
With how this year went, it is almost sure that 2021 will not submit to our plans. Nonetheless, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. I believe that it is totally possible to prepare for something you are uncertain of. We did it growing up in school, we studied for tests while we were not 100% sure of what the questions would be. We prepared for interviews while unsure we would get the job. Uncertainty does not negate the fact that life moves on, the world keeps spinning and while you cannot control everything, the things that you can control, do.
I'm here to provide you with 5 tips to prepare for the New Year:
1. Reflect on your previous year.
- It is so important to take time to reflect upon the previous year, as we move into the next. What was your biggest lesson? What did you learn about yourself?
- You will accomplish much more in the new year if you take account of any life changing moments that may have impacted who you are. Most times, failures are your best teachers.
2. Get a planner!
- An excellent way to organize your life is to get a planner! Lucky for you, I sell them. And if you want 30% off your purchase, use code "2021". Use it to meal plan, budget track and progress record. It helps with time management, improves productivity and provides excellent stress relief (science approved).
3. Write a mission statement.
- Ask yourself, what is my purpose in 2021? Having a clearly detailed mission statement will help you stay on course, so in the times you're feeling lost or confused, you can refer back with unambiguous direction and priority.
- Of course, the statement should include what's important to you, the person you want to be and how you will get there.
4. Get accountability.
- 9 times out of 10, if your goal is to create a new long-term habit, you need someone or something helping you along, and there is no shame in that. When I made up my mind to start healthy eating and exercising, I thought I could do it alone. But that resulted in more cheat days that necessary and multiple rest days...a week. A got an accountability partner and now (by force), I workout minimum 3x a week and have been seeing results.
- Yeah so no, keeping yourself accountable doesn't work either!
5. Detox your life.
- Now I'm talking about a full blown cleanse, both literal and metaphysical toxicity. Things or people that prevent you from living a full and happier life, need to go.
- This could include a friend who brings you down, social media accounts you follow that cause anxiety, gossip...any negative trigger. Delete them.
- Also includes cleaning out your closet, fridge, organizing your room and email inbox.
- This is the hardest part, but it also the most healing.
Happy New Years Tea Lovers!
