Winter Essentials

Winter is coming. *cue GOT theme song* And guess what, Canada is famous for its winters. Despite what you may have heard or experienced, it is possible for all the snow, cold and short days to be enjoyable with the right items. Keep reading for a list of some winter accessories you'll need to make it through.

1. Vitamin D supplements

Since vitamin D production is triggered by a chemical reaction that occurs when our skin is exposed to the sun, most Canadians produce very little or none at all throughout the winter. This special vitamin helps fight disease and reduces depression, which is helpful for those who experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) due to the changes in the amount of sunlight. Don’t know what this is? Read my “Feeling SAD, now what” blog.

2. Lip Balm

The cold weather may bring you some misery, but don't let dry lips be a factor. Invest in an intensive lip treatment that will keep your lip hydrated all winter long. Chapped lips are never fun.

 3. Travel Mug

When life gives you lemons, make some coffee and keep going. Travel mugs keep your coffee/tea hot from your home to your school or place of work. Investing in your own reusable cup saves you money and keeps your hands warm.

4. Portable Charger

The last thing you want is to get stuck in a storm with a dead phone. This handy piece of equipment will give your technology the boost it needs until your home again.

5. Humidifier

The frigid cold of winter is bad for our skin, hair and nails causing dryness, and brittleness. Since our body is over 60% water, the extra moisture may improve these ailments. And some studies show that humidifiers can help you avoid viral infections.

6. Favourite Candle

There is nothing like cozying up on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa while your favourite scent wafts through air and the fire cackles quietly throughout the room. Need I say more? Stock up and place one in every room. Side note: Also very helpful if a storm causes a power outage and you need some light.
